Do you need foundations for an extension or conservatory?

The start of work on a new conservatory

Extending your home isn’t a quick or straight forward process, and we understand it’s not always easy to understand the technical elements of the construction process your home will go through to build your dream extension. You will need foundations for a conservatory or extension, and these base systems come in different materials such as timber, concrete and steel. Although in most cases you don’t need planning permissions for conservatories or extensions (along with their foundations), it’s important to be informed about what will be supporting this new section of your home.

We at T&K have adopted the newly founded Durabase product so that we can offer our customers a quicker solution to their conservatory or extension base work and walls with less mess. From a number of concrete pads and a metal foundation, Durabase provides a fast and efficient modular base and wall system bespoke to each customer’s requirements.

But what makes them better than traditional bases?

1. Less mess, less waste
Traditional bases require large volumes of soil to be removed, sometimes a digger is needed which causes major disruption to the property and surroundings. The Durabase uses concrete pads placed strategically around the base and a steel frame to ensure solidity for the extension or conservatory foundations.
There’s no forklift, digger or skip meaning less mess and less waste to deal with. There’s little disruption to your home.

2. It’s quicker to install
As Durabase uses concrete pads and a steel frame as the conservatory foundations, it has a much quicker install time compared to that of traditional foundations such digging out footings and filling with concrete (called concrete strip foundations). It’s essentially a prefab extension base and wall system and arrives in a conservatory kit form, this includes flooring and under floor insulation ready for the installation. All finishing choices are discussed with our customers but the building of it all is taken care of by our expert installation team.

3. It’s easier to install on uneven ground
Gardens with difficult access or that are sloping are all easily overcome with a Durabase foundation system. Difficult access can also add a lot of time onto the installation process if a digger is unable to access the property and certain permissions are required. Durabase’s modular extensions remove the need for a digger and reduce the time needed to install.
You can also remove the expense of relocating any existing manholes or drains which is required with a traditional base.

4. Customisation
Customising your conservatory base and walls is an important factor, Durabase offer a wide variety of different brick and mortar colours to match your existing home’s appearance. The real brick modular walls are installed on top of the steel frame base in a matter of hours so your extension or conservatory can blend right into your homes existing aesthetics.

5. Warranty
A 25 year guarantee is across both Durabase and Durabase Plus products giving you peace of mind, as well as the guarantee, it is JHAI approved. We also include a 10-year guarantee on any home improvement installations so rest assured your extensions or conservatory will be safe hands. The fully insulated walls and base also provide you with U-values as low as 0.22W/m2k and 0.18W/m2k.
